Reasons for having a conference • To discuss your child’s progress • Any concerns you have about school • Special Education Services (IEP) • Retention Decisions
As a parent you can… • Call Guidance to schedule a conference • Send a letter or an e-mail to the Guidance Counselor requesting a conference • Include: • Your name and contact phone • The day and time you are available • Request an interpreter, if needed
Additional Information • Conferences are not required at middle and high school, but may be requested • You may contact the teacher directly by phone or email for minor concerns • Parent-Teacher Conferences usually last 30 minutes
Touch-Base (High School) • School has an adjusted schedule and parents visit the school from 7:00-10:00 a.m. to meet all of the teachers and find out how their child is doing • Occurs once per semester
Literacy Activity • Watch and then discuss: Claro Video -“Parent-Teacher Conference” • Read and answer questions “From Home to School” Book 2 (Pink) p. 62
Role Play Activity • Parents volunteer to conduct a parent- teacher conference in small groups [refer to Book 2, p. 62] • PEP Teacher(s) role play first to make sure parents know what is expected
Computer Lab • Parents access EduLink and/or School Fusion and email their child’s teacher(s) to request a conference or request an update on how their child is doing
