Birth & Family • Terrence Dashon Howard was born on March 11, in 1969. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. • His family consists of his two daughters, Aubrey and Heaven, and one son, Hunter. • Howard and his wife divorced in 2003, then remarried in 2005, but have since separated. (Terrence with Hunter, 11, Aubrey, 13, and Heaven, 9.)
Background • Terrence was born in Chicago, but was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. • His grandmother was a stage actress, as wells as his mother and uncles. • His parents were both biracial (of African American and Caucasian descent) • At age 16 Terrance emancipated himself from his parents. • At 18 he moved to New York to pursue an acting career.
Education • Howard wanted to be a science teacher. • He had a low grade point average in high school • He was Admitted to the Pratt Institute in New York after convincing them to give him a special entrance exam. • When his education wasn’t complete he auditioned for The Cosby Show.
Movie Career • Made his film debut in Mr. Holland’s Opus. • Received a Golden Globe in 2005 for his most famous role as Dja y in the movie Hustle & Flow. • Played Jim Ellis, a real-life school teacher who founded the first African-American swim team during the 1970s, in the movie Pride. • Played Lt. Green in the movie Four Brothers. • Worked alongside Jodie Foster as Detective Mercer in the movie The Brave One. • Played Bama in the movie Get Rich or Die Tryin’. • Co-star for Robert Downey Jr. as Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes in the smash hit Iron Man. (Howard as Djay in the movie Hustle & Flow.)
Music Career • Was featured in the Hustle & Flow Soundtrack. • Terrence released his debut album, Shine Through It, in September 2008. • The album was heavily inspired by popular soul singers such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield.
Impact The impact Terrence has on U.S. History is not the greatest. His movie’s tend to be inspirational though. To people of all colors, ages, shapes and sizes, watching his movies can make you feel like you can do close to anything. Life throws obstacles at you, but there’s always someone you can count on.
