JLoima From theory to practice…Subject Teacher Education/Teachers’ Pedagogical Studies, 60 ETCS COMMON FRAMEWORK In Helsinki, the Subject Teacher Education is organised in cooperation with the Dept. of Applied Sciences of Education, University Teacher Training Schools, several other Faculties of the University as well as with the Sibelius Academy, the University of Arts and Design Helsinki (Aalto University), and the Academy of Performing Arts Subject teachers for lower/upper secondary schools/vocational schools/adult education have a degree in their own faculties, with the subject of instruction as their major. Qualified teachers (for permanent teaching posts) must complete TPS (60 ETCS)
JLoima Subject Teacher Education II A BIT MORE DETAILED… 1) In line with the EU Bologna process, Teacher's Pedag. Studies include two cycles: B.A. (3 years) and M.A. (2) 2) Studies are linked into both cycles 3) The University of Helsinki has shared the academic year => four study periods 4) For university students this system means applications, selection and registration before entering to the pedagogical studies 5) Lections, individual work, teamwork and textbooks, as well as evaluation and interactive feedback are included to each course and period of the Pedagogial studies
JLoima Theory and practice in periodical structures BACHELOR’S CYCLE (25 ECTS) (1 cr. =27 working hours in average) First period (18 ETCS) Psychology of development and leaning (4 ETCS) Special Education (4 ETCS) Introduction to subject teaching (10 ETCS), includes an observation visit (3 d) to the teacher training schools Second period (13 ETCS) Basic Training Period in TTS (7 ETCS) Master’s level studies: ’teacher as a researcher’ seminar, concentrating on research and methods
JLoima MASTER’ S CYCLE (35 ETCS) Third period (17 ETCS) Social, historical and philosophical foundations/roots of education (5 ETCS) Evaluation and development of teaching (7 ETCS) Applied training period (5 ETCS) Fourth period (12 ETCS) Teacher as a researcher seminar: pedagogical thesis (4 ETCS) advenced training period (8 ETCS), including a summarising feedback of the TPS to the Department of Applied Sciences of Education as well as to the training schools and national wetwork
JLoima Classroom Teacher Education (300 ETCS) Communication studies and orientation studies (25 ETCS) is shared into B.A. And M.A. Levels, including e.g., language and communication skills, introduction to media education and ICT Main subject studies (140 ETCS) is shared, as well, including cultural/psychological/pedagogical, research studies (120 ETCS) and training (20 ETCS) Minor subject studies (60 ETCS), including multidisciplinary studies in subjects and cross-curricular issues taught in basic education (arts, humanistic subjects, environmental and science subjects and their didactics) Optional minor studies (75 ETCS)
