  1. Know Want to Know Learned • x chromosome = female • y chromosome = male • there are 23 chromosomes • alleles are two versions of the same trait • genotype is the genetic make-up of an individual (letter version) • phenotype is the physical make-up of an individual • I know that trait are inherited from parents to offspring • Why do scientist want to create genetically modified organisms? • I want to know why some offspring physically look like one parent than they do the other • GMO= genetically modified organism • fingerprints can be used to show DNA • the dominant gene can over power the recessive gene • all living things are made up of DNA • I learned how to read and create a pedigree chart • punnet square is used to determine the offspring’s traits. • I learned that there are dominant and recessive traits

  2. l k w There is a lot of things that I still do not know I am sure about this but I could not say what I want to find out if I don't no or nothing is taught to me because how would I get an idea of what I want to know. Phenotype is the physical characteristic. The genotype is the gene and what holds all your genetic information. I learned that a disease starts out by one member of the family having it or also both and this would carry out to the offspring. I also learned the different ways that the genetic is put down into two types of tables. I learned all that I know now because at first I didn’t have an idea of all the thing that we go threw or the process that it takes for an offspring to have the traits that it ends up having.

  3. WANT TO KNOW LEARNED KNOW • Traits • DNA • 64 Chromosomes • you get 23 chro - • mosome from each parent • characteristics • x = female • y = male • hereditary • dominant • genes • The reason we look like we look is because of traits from our grandparents passed down to us. • Why certain kids in a family have the disease when the others don’t. • That a Pedigree Analysis is like a family tree but its based on the appearance. • GMO = genetically modified organisms • Punnett Square • homozygous • heterozygous
