  5. Marine Protection Research and Sanctuaries Act1972 • Regulates ocean dumping • Established sanctuaries for the protection of endangered marine species

  6. Ports and Waterways Safety Act 1972 • Regulates oil transport • Regulates operation of oil handling facilities

  7. Safe Drinking Water Act1974 • Requires minimum safety standards for every community water supply • Provides provisions to protect groundwater aquifers

  8. Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)1976 • Regulates the storage, shipping, processing, and disposal of hazardous wastes and sets limits on the sewering of toxic chemicals

  9. Toxic Substances Control Act1976 • Categorizes toxic and hazardous substances • Establishes a research program • Regulates the disposal of poisonous chemicals

  10. Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1984 • Provides for the sealing, excavation, or remediation of toxic and hazardous dumps
