DAQ fo KL and TOF Jean-Sebastien Graulich, Geneva • General Information • Status of Synchronization problem • FEE for TOF2 Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Reminder • TOF Front End • KL Front End Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Issues (1) • Cross Talk • Possible sources • Splitter • RC Shaper • Twisted pair cable • Affecting both TOF and KL • Cabling done in such a way that Requiring coincidence between opposite PMTs reduce the effect strongly but not completely • Needs some dedicated studies • Action: A better splitter is under production in Geneva Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Cross Talk • Consequence: Dead Channel unnoticed ! (rate != 0) Counts - S6 in TOF 1 (ch 73) - Disconnected in the hall - Probably for the entire September run TDC01 Channel Number Counts Jean-Sebastien Graulich TDC00 Channel Number
Issues (2) • Discriminator dead time • Minimum width of logic signal after discriminator: 100 ns • Double pulse resolution: 110 ns • In a given TOF PMT, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see two hits in the same burst ! • Complying with specifications but a real limitation Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Issues (3) • Noise in FADC • Fluctuating baseline • Seems to be time correlated with the particle trigger • Affects Charge resolution • Needs dedicated studies Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Synchronization Problem • TOF and KL FEE in different VME Crates • Each crate receives separate DAQ trigger at the end of the spill • Perfect Synchronization needed for correlation between TOF and KL Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Understanding the Problem • Synchronization can be lost because of • Unstable electronics in DAQ trigger distribution • Unstable behavior of the VME/Pci Interface • The DAQ software release the busy and enables the DAQ trigger receiver channel after readout • Must go through the VME/Pci Interface • It happens that one of the two commands is not executed properly… • Unpredictable • Cured only by a power cycle • Has to be monitored Jean-Sebastien Graulich
DAQ Trigger Monitor counts Number of LDC receiving a DAQ Trigger per DAQ event # of DAQ Triggers LDC Number Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Particle Trigger monitor Counts TDCs V1724 FADCs Scalar ch0 V1731 FADC Equipment number # of Part Triggers LDC Number Jean-Sebastien Graulich
FADC behavior • During September Run • One FADC didn’t accept particle triggers at all • I am suspecting a hardware failure • Another FADC missed all the particle triggers for 1 single spill at the beginning of the run and then behaved normally • Need to be sorted out with CAEN • I need help here Jean-Sebastien Graulich
FEE for TOF2 • Needs (ignoring cabling and HV) • 1 TDC V1290 • 5 FADC V1724 • Splitters and Shapers available in Geneva • To be shipped • Issues • NIM crate room • Not sure the power supply will stand a full load • VME crate room • All TOF TDC must be in the same crate • TOF FADC will go to KL crate • A major update of crate layout is necessary ! Jean-Sebastien Graulich
Summary • TOF0/1 and KL in good shape • Cross talk needs attention • Synchronization has to be monitored • TOF2 installation is not trivial Jean-Sebastien Graulich
