Action Plan FarayhaHasssan
Long – Term Goal • Adopt 21st century teaching approaches to enhance students appreciation for books and enhance their reading skills through a literacy program.
Short - Term Goals • Ensure that the literacy program for the younger children focuses on addressing the literacy needs of early readers. • Enable student reading comprehension skills through reading programs, worksheets, plays etc. • Acknowledge that the most valuable form of reading assessment reflects current understanding about the reading process. • When considering the types of data to collect, be sure to select or design assessments that elicit established outcomes. • Look for patterns, trends, and areas of strength and weakness. Determine explanations for these results. Identify main areas of concern and develop another action plan to address them.
Instructional strategies • By modeling the strategies aloud, talking through the processes of previewing, predicting, skimming and scanning, and paraphrasing. This shows students how the strategies work and how much they can know about a text before they begin to read word by word. • By allowing time in class for group and individual previewing and predicting activities as preparation for in-class or out-of-class reading. Allocating class time to these activities indicates their importance and value. • By giving students opportunity to enact the stories they have read. • By using cloze (fill in the blank) exercises to review vocabulary items. This helps students learn to guess meaning from context. • By encouraging them write summaries of the books they read. • By holding reading and elocution competitions to enable the students develop fluency , improve their pronunciation and develop confidence • Through worksheets in which students will be asked different types of question to help develop their understanding of the text read and enhance their analytical and creative skills.
