Good attitudes • Good work ethic • Good character • Volleyball is important.. But who they are and who they become is more important What I’m All About…
About 60 girls last year for Open Gyms • Unfortunately I can only keep 20-30 MAX. • Uniforms, Coaches, Preparing girls for next year… • White Squad/Practice Squad • Success story at Derry my 8th grade year • Girl was “cut” in 7th grade, went to practice squad practices, made varsity team & saw some playing time Unfortunately…
Try outs will be the last week of January • Plenty of time to learn, study, and practice • “Cuts” are made considering perceived potential, attitude, “coachability,” etc. (not JUST skill) • Two teams of roughly 10-15 girls • Not solely based on grade, more talent • Black Squad – “Varsity” • Orange Squad – “JV” Try Outs
EVERYONE who comes to practices will have a chance to purchase team warm ups • Black/Orange squad will have option to put numbers on clothing • White squad will receive a paw print or wildcat logo instead of number • Player/Parent is solely responsible for $ Team Warm Ups
I expect team players all day, every day, no matter what • Always strive to be better than someone • Always help others to be better, even if that means better than you • Work to earn a spot, & work to KEEP a spot • Nothing is given • Never ask about playing time, but what you need to improve on • Maddox vs. Roethlisberger… Team Players
Ben was the No. 3 QB behind Tommy Maddox andCharlie Batch. Batch was injured in the preseason, Roethlisberger moved up to no. 2. • Maddox started, and won, the season opener against theRaiders and started versus the Ravens. • After an ineffective outing and third-quarter injury to Maddox, Roethlisberger stepped in for his first NFL action. Maddox's injury changed the Steelers' original plan for Roethlisberger, which was for him to sit on the bench or play sparingly during the first season or two in order to learn the team's system. • Instead, he started the third game of the season. As a rookie, he went 13-0 in the regular season Tides can turn… Life Lessons
More lenient in junior high than in high school • Ski Club – Will work with it, MAY have some Fridays off. • Track – DO IT! The more sports (for now) the better the athlete • Won’t interfere once in high school • Cheerleading, will have to pick between the 2 in 9th grade • Unacceptable reasons to miss practice • Hair/nail appointments • Doctor/Dentist appointments • Injuries (still should come support your team & learn the game/plays) • Concerts/Professional Sporting Events • No ride – call a friend, call anyone Commitment, Dedication, Sacrifice
AVOID vacations in August (8th graders) • Senior High Season starts as early as 2nd week of August • Look into playing club volleyball/JO’s • Keystone Volleyball Club – closest (Google KVC) • Try outs November 9th 2-5pm @ Seton Hill Univ. • From August on, practices are mandatory • Was not early enough in past years to get word out, but believe I am this year. 8th GRADERS
Watch youtube videos • Watch more youtube videos • Passing, Blocking, Setting,Hitting, Serving, Games… US Olympic Vball, PSU… • Practice footwork in a mirror • Get a ball for at home • Practice, Practice Practice! • Don’t break anything STUDY & PRACTICE
All dates on calendar are subject to change • Will communicate using Remind messaging App if change occurs • Note differences in times on different days • Calendar can also be found on my teacher web page • GLSD.us Senior High School Teachers Jordan Zeunges 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball Calendar
Have fun & gain skills, knowledge, and confidence! • Wear athletic clothes (no jean shorts, cami’s, crop tops, etc.) • Pull hair back (hair tie) • Bring water bottle (filled w/ water) • Wash face/take off make up • We’re not here to look good, we’re here to play hard and sweat • Leave cell-phones in bags • No using phone during practice/drink breaks Open Gyms
I do not monitor locker room before practice • I expect all girls to act as is being there is a privilege, that can be taken away • Leave valuables at home, or at least bring with them into gym • I expect girls to begin putting up nets 10-15 minutes before start time • Everyone helps Open Gyms
Knee Pads – smaller = better (so the girls think…) Equipment - OPTIONAL
Volleyball shoes – two most popular are Mizuno and Asics Equipment - OPTIONAL
Girls will NEED black spandex for games • Spandex is NOT necessary for practices • I ask that you purchase a pair of black Nike pro with the 5” inseam Spandex
Girls will come out of building to the LEFT of the Jr. High Office Doors • I come out and wait for rides shortly after gathering my belongings and locking up Pick - Up
