  7. Back YardEntertainment Area • A common entertainment area is 10’x10’ concrete slab that is open & too small for most activities • Size is a key design consideration corresponding to actual needs & • Simple, single level decks are suitable for small gathering while large, multi-level decks can host larger crowds… Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, 04.10.2008

  8. Back Yard:Developing the space • Materials: a hardscape material to provide for solid footing & to separate them from the lawn.. • Most common material used are wood decks & patios (constructed with pavers, flagstones or concrete). Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, 04.10.2008

Dense shrubs that are 6 feet tall have a high degree of enclosure where lower shrubs have an implied enclosure Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, 04.10.2008

  10. Back Yard • The lower the shrubs the more separation is implied & while • Ground cover implies separation without screening • Lattice walls enclose the hot tub for semi-privacy allowing light & wind to pass through… Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, 04.10.2008
