Introduction Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences is an apex body of Dept. of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India set up in 1978 (bifurcated from Siddha in 2011) for - • Formulation • Co-ordination • Development • Promotion of research in Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine on scientific lines.

Demonstrative Cultivation of Medicinal Plants No. of gardens under CCRAS : 5 (Pune, Ranikhet, Jhansi, Itanagar & Leh) Area under cultivation : 68.5 Acres approx Total No. of species under cultivation : 716 (Without repetition) No. of cultivated species represented in AFI, part-I & II : Approx. 200 Research paper published : Approx. 150 • Monographs: • Cultivation of Commiphorawightii (Guggulu) • Experimental cultivation of saffron (Kumkum) • Standard method for propagation of Guggulu plant through cutting and air layering established. • Plants being provided to Govt./NGO/Private Institutions and farmers. • Cultivation techniques established on saffron. • Know-how being given to Forest Department Govt. of Uttarakhand and other interested parties. • Experimental cultivation of many species are carried out to observe the quality and quantity of yield, suitable maturity time of the drug part and adaptability of the species to new habitat condition.
Pharmacology • Approx. 375 studies have been carried out for safety evaluation/biological activities since inception • Presently, 7 studies are being carried out for safety evaluation of coded Ayurvedic drugs/Bhasmas/ Rasakalpa and biological activities for 2 Ayurvedic drugs are in progress
