When Ancestry parted with their u2018Family Tree Makeru2019 genealogy software, the whole world was shocked. Thousands of u2018Family Tree Makeru2019 users made their shift to RootsMagic. And a question was raised- will there be any other software that will be able to search and synchronize with Ancestry the same way the Family tree did?

Thousands of ‘Family Tree Maker’ users made their shift to RootsMagic. And a question was raised- will there be any other software that will be able to search and synchronize with Ancestry the same way the Family tree did? And today, we finally have an answer to that question- yes! RootsMagic will be working with Ancestry to bring this feature into our software in the near feature. WHAT DOES THIS INDICIATE in RootsMagic and Ancestry? A lot of you may be wondering what does this mean for the user. A number of new features will now be available and they are listed down below. 1. Search- RootsMagic will be the only software beside Family Tree Maker to search Ancestry’s extensive collections of historical records from all around the world. It will also let you download those records into your own file. 2. Sync-Besides Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic is the only software that allow you to share data between your RootsMagic files on your computer with your personal Ancestry online tree. You will be able to download people, events and event pictures from Ancestry onto you rcomputer through RootsMagic. 3. Import- You will not longer need to go through an intermediate GEDCOM file to transfer data. RootsMagic will be able to directly import your Family Tree Maker files giving you the cleanest, most complete transfer of your data. RootsMagic will also be able to download your online trees from Ancestry. QUESTIONS Now, a lot of you may be confused about this new development and have a number of questions. Listed down below are answers to some common questions that the user may be wondering about: Does this mean that Ancestry brought RootsMagic? No. RootsMagic is still an independent software maker Why are RootsMagic and Ancestry working together? 1/3

  2. It will be beneficial for both companies and their users. RootsMagic users will have convenient access to Ancestry collection of tress and records. Former Family Tree Maker users will have a path forward while still using the Ancestry hints and trees. Will I have to buy a new version of RootsMagic to use these features? If you are using the paid version of RootsMagic 7, these features will be included in a free update to that version. If you are using a version of RootsMagic older than 7, you will need to purchase an upgrade to 7 to use the features. When will these features be available? We anticipate having many of these features available later this year in an update to our RootsMagic 7 software. Are you the only other genealogy software working the Ancestry? Besides Family Tree Maker, yes. What if I don’t want to upload my data to Ancestry? These features are completely optional. You’re free to use or ignore them as you like. Will I need an Ancestry subscription to use these features? Use of Ancestry features will require an Ancestry account, even if only as a free Registered Guest. The features and records available to you will depend on your subscription level. Will I still be able to use RootsMagic to work with FamilySearch, MyHeritage, and other companies? Yes. This will not affect any existing functionality in the RootsMagic software including sharing data with FamilySearch Family Tree and WebHints. If I am a Family Tree Maker user, do I need to buy Rootsmagic? Ancestry has stated that current versions of Family Tree Maker will work with their services through 2016. So you don’t have to make the switch immediately. However, we do recommend that you buy it Will the sync work exactly like TreeSync in Family Tree Maker? Ancestry is working on a new API that both RootsMagic and FTM will be switching to.The API is still in development.
