Federal ADA Paratransit Requirements • People with disabilities who cannot use transit for some or all trips • Available when and where public transit is provided • Fare of no more than 2X regular transit fare for same trip • Available on a next-day basis • No trip priorities, limits or denials • Trip cannot take longer than same trip on transit

  20. Current State of Paratransit • 4 Systems / 4 Providers • Valley Metro – Transdev • Phoenix – MV Transportation • Glendale – City • Peoria – City w/ Valley Metro Paratransit assistance

  24. Differences... • Hours of Operations: • East Valley – Daily from 4 AM to 1 AM • Northwest Valley – Weekdays from 7 AM to 5 PM* • Regional – Daily from 5 AM to 10 PM* • Service Areas: • Travel rules vary by city • Where you live determines what you get

  25. Differences – Cont. • Same Day Service: • Available – Chandler, Scottsdale & Tempe • Unavailable – all other cities • Eligibility: • Several cities permit seniors, without ADA certification to travel • Other cities require ADA certification for all customers

Differences – Cont. • Fare: • Some County residents pay a fare; others do not. • Acceptable Payment Methods: • Phoenix residents are entitled to monthly passes and discounted tickets; other customers are not. • Different fare structure for customers taking same day trips in Chandler, Scottsdale and Tempe
