Deposition in Water • Deposition- process in which material is laid down. Stream deposits are made where water current decreases. • Placer deposits- Heavy minerals are deposited where river slows • Delta- Fan shaped mass of material deposits at the mouth of a stream. Rivers current slows when a river empties into a large body of water. Forms on a flat surface, made of mud and form new land which causes the coast line to grow.
Deposition on Land • Alluvial Fan- Fan shaped deposits that form on dry land. Forms from a fast moving mountain stream on a flat plain. • Floodplain-Rivers overflow their banks and adds a layer of sediment. This happens during high rainfall or rapid snow melt.
