Why is ‘Transforming the Library’ happening? • Part of the University’s development of Central Park • Allows the Library to make major improvements to services • Recognition by the University that significant investment is needed in the Library to make it comparable to other university libraries
What will ‘Transforming the Library’ mean? • Incorporation of Level 4 into the Library • Improvement to quality and quantity of learning spaces • Enhanced access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) • Re-location of PC Clinic from Haslegrave to Library Possible layout plan for Level 4
What will ‘Transforming the Library’ mean? • Increased number and quality of toilets • More effective accommodation for High Demand Collection • More impressive entrance to Library • Introduction of rolling shelving on Levels 1 and 2 to enable Library to store all material without need of external store Possible layout plan for Level 3
This is not the first time the Library has been transformed • For example: between 2005 and 2010 Level 3 has been transformed several times to change it from being a storage area for indexes and abstracts to a vibrant group study area.

Transforming the Library 2012 - 2013 • The following slides show how the Library could be transformed over the next year.
How much will ‘Transforming the Library’ cost? • The University has made available approximately £4,500,000 for ‘Transforming the Library’. • It is anticipated that external funders will contribute towards the total as well.
When will ‘Transforming the Library’ take place? • The work will commence in December 2012 with the intention of being completed by the end of September 2013 • Preparatory work will be initially concentrated over the Christmas and Easter vacations • The scale and volume of work will mean the Library will close from around the 22nd June 2013 to the 30th September 2013 • The Library and the wider University will ensure alternative access to Library services is provided on campus
