Current QA Framework • All national jurisdictions reserve theright to govern professional accreditation and recognition in medicine • Therefore NUMed needs to comply with both UK and Malaysian regulatory jurisdictions
QA and Professional Accreditation: Stakeholders NUMed is already engaged with both UK and Malaysian authorities for QA and professional recognition in medicine: • In the UK, the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and General Medical Council (GMC) • In Malaysia, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Malaysian Medical Council (MMC)
NUMed Malaysia: External QA in Practice • UK: • GMC: Quality Assurance of Basic Medical Education (QABME) • QAA: Institutional Audit • Malaysia: • MMC: Guidelines for the Accreditation of Basic Medical Education Programmes in Malaysia • MQA • Ministry of Higher Education • Ministry of Health
NUMed Malaysia: Lessons Learned • Early engagement with QA essential • Political support does not abrogate need to work through the system • Expect and respect cultural difference – each national context will be distinct • Patience required – allow time • True costs of QA and professional accreditation must be built into business plan and budget
