Save the Last Word for Me Reading strategy
Instructions • Read the story assigned to your group. • As you read, note 5 places in the story that interest you, or that you would like to say more about. • They can be things that: • Surprised • Excited • intrigued you • or revealing statements/actions made by the characters
Instructions • In your journal, create a t-chart. • Note each of the five words/phrases/passages you chose from the text in the left column. • Note your comments about each one in the right column. Example
Instructions • When you’ve finished reading and writing, read one of your choices to your group and help them find it in the text. • Go around the group and everyone can share their thoughts on the passage except for the person who chose it. • The person who chose the passage shares their thoughts last, so that they get “the last word” on the subject.
Instructions • Repeat steps 3-5 until each person in the group has shared their passage.
