The Edge of Tomorrow: Paté de Foie Gras By Issac Asimov
This essay is about the Department of Agriculture investigating a goose who's eggs do not want to hatch.
The essay starts with the Department of Agriculture responding to a farmers desperate notes for help that his gooses eggs will not hatch.
The Department of Agriculture sends someone out to visit MacGregor and his goose. He discovered that the goose was laying golden eggs.
After discovering the egg was made of gold they returned and started “Project Goose” to study the egg and the goose. They sent a team of 5 biochemists to MacGregor’s farm to investigate the goose. Along with a squadron of army personnel for security.
After a series of tests they discovered the egg is not a hoax and the gold is actually coming from the goose. However after several attempts to debunk why the gold was coming from the goose they came to the conclusion that it was not in taking the gold from the environment.
After a long series of tests and research they came to the conclusion that the goose had a mutation from the radiation in the land. The goose as said by a scientist “A living nuclear reactor”. The goose was turning iron into gold through a nuclear reaction.
