  3. Introduction • First Book/Le Premier Livre (FB/LPL) needs the help of Canadian Pi Beta Phi fraternities, to identify community schools and programs that can benefit from FB/LPL resources. • Goal: Register a minimum of 10 groups each in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

  4. STEP 1: Find a Program • Groups that serve at least 80% children from low-income families are eligible to receive books from FB/LPL. • Look at the “What Types of Programs Does First Book Canada Serve?” flier to help you identify groups in your area. • Try searching the following keywords in Google: children’s literacy, literacy in Canada, low-income families. • Visit Charity Village and United Way

  5. STEP 2: Fill out the Registration Worksheet • Record the program’s name, mission, website, population served (age range and number of children) and any other pertinent information in the Excel spreadsheet. • Send the completed worksheet to wcochrane@firstbook.org by January 14th, 2011. • FB/LPL will determine group eligibility and return the worksheet to you.

  6. STEP 3: Connect with the Program and Provide Registration Materials • Connect with the program administrator and provide them with the “Receive Free Books from First Book/Le Premier Livre and Pi Beta Phi” flier. • Direct the administrator to www.firstbookcanada.org and ask them to indicate that they were referred by Pi Beta Phi.

  7. STEP 4: Follow up • One week after giving registration materials to program administrators, contact Wayne Cochrane at FB/LPL to see which programs have newly registered. • Contact the programs that have not yet registered and encourage them to complete the registration process, and provide them with further information if requested.

  8. Helpful Tools • Outreach Prospects Worksheet (Excel Spreadsheet) • How to Register a Program with First Book/Le Premier Livre • What Types of Programs Does First Book/Le Premier Livre Serve? • Receive Brand New Books from First Book/Le Premier Livre and Pi Beta Phi (For Recipient Groups)
