Characteristics • When you think of deserts do you think of a dry hot endless sea of sand devoid of life? • There are deserts that are cold, due to the lack of rain fall. • Deserts have highly varied landscapes. • A damp hole in a saguaro cactus helps a family of elf owls keep cool in the hot desert. • Some deserts are known as the deadliest areas in the world. • Temperatures in the summer can reach over 100 degrees.

  3. Location • Deserts can be found all over the world. • They can be found on almost every continent.

  4. Plant life • Deserts are the home to many living things. • In fact ,deserts are second only to tropical rain forests in the variety of plant and animal species that live there. • Livingstones are cactus plants that survive by looking like rocks.

  5. Animal life • Animals that live in the hot have many adaptations. • Some animals never drink, but get their water from seeds.
