  2. PURPOSE • Access intraoperative and postoperative complications after implantation of intrastromal corneal ring segments (KeraringR) in patients with corneal ectasia, performed by surgeons in training. SETTING • Sorocaba Eye Bank (HOSBOS), Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil

  3. METHODS • Retrospective review of 67 eyes of 67 patients with corneal ectasia (64 with keratoconus and 3 with pellucid marginal degeneration) submited to intrastromal corneal ring segments (KeraringR) implantation, performed by surgeons in training at HOSBOS, using the manual technique. Patients were examined at 1 and 3 months after surgery.

  4. No patient had infectious keratitis, bleeding, segment decentration, hydrops or healing defects as described in other studies.

  5. CONCLUSIONS • The rate and type ofintraoperativeand postoperative complications of intrastromal corneal ring implantation (KeraringR), performed bysurgeons in training at HOSBOS, usingthe manual technique, remained within the expected compared to those found in previous studies.
