  3. WHY? • To clarify existing processes • To respond to students • To respond to staff •  To improve processes

  4. Mark adjustments for Extenuating Circumstances • now limited to 1 increment • i.e. B to B+ ,C- to C, B+ to A-, etc • Can offer deferral – reassessment without penalty

  5. Moderation • Second-marking a systematic sample and resolution of differences • Blind double marking of all submissions and resolution of differences • Group marking by teams of internal examiners who come to an agreed grade for each student

  6. Minimum moderation requirements • All final major project units are double-blind marked or group marked • At least 10% sampled, always • Recorded in writing: grades before and after, and reasons given for grade amendments.

  7. Holistic and Element Assessment • a single grade vs more than one grade per student per unit • Process for awarding and combining grades must be transparent and clearly explained in the assessment brief

  8. Material Irregularities • New, standardised procedures • Goal of quick and fair resolution of issues affecting student assessments

  9. Minor changes • Revised guidance regarding obligation to inform students heading for failure • Revised EC Form and Letter Templates •  Revised guidance on processing ECs affecting multiple students

  10. Online Assessment Tool • Optional at present • Next developmental stage: integration with QL • Seeking course teams to pilot integrated version • Courses will be able to ‘opt in’ to integration initially • Contact elearning-support@arts.ac.uk to find out about using the tool on your course
