The BQCL Mission Statement The Blue Quill Community League strives to provide a sense of community, and to enhance the quality of life in the greater Blue Quill Community, by providing: facilities for community use; excellent social, recreational and cultural programs; and focussed advocacy efforts. 2008 BQCL AGM

Our Community Our Borders The Community League boundaries will be described as follows: from a point on the Intersection of 119 Street NW and 34 Avenue NW, east along 34 Avenue NW to 111 Street NW, south along 111 Street NW to the intersection point with Blackmud Creek, following Blackmud Creek and then Whitemud Creek in the direction of water flow to an intersection point with the imaginary westerly extension of Saddleback Road to Whitemud Creek, east along the extension to 119 Street NW, north along 119 Street NW to 34 Avenue NW. The boundaries are to follow centre lines of roadways and predominant streambed. 2008 BQCL AGM

  16. Year in Review – Executive • Let’s get to the Point … • At tonight’s AGM, 10 of 12 board positions need to be filled. 2008 BQCL AGM

  17. Year in Review – Executive • Make no mistake… • The League IS a business • Between revenue and expenses, our cash flow this year is close to $500,000.00 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Executive • Started the year with 9 Directors positions filled • Over the course of the year, Directors count dropped to 6 • Number of Directors (quorum) required to introduce and pass motions = 7 • Had to defer motions and hold special meetings, so that motions could be tabled and voted on and minutes approved • At this AGM, there are many positions available. 2008 BQCL AGM

  19. Year in Review – Membership • Director: (vacant) • Membership year runs from September 1 to August 31 in alignment with EFCL. The League has 111 members to date and should increase to approximately 250 in the Spring with soccer registrations. Fall registration is in September, and Spring registration is in February. 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Garth Williams (vacant) • Interior Repair Highlights • Replacement of both hall kitchen coolers’ compressor and electronics • Installed protective cover over basement radiator (replaced last year) • Exterior Improvements • Volunteer Gardener maintained flower beds and bushes • Doors repainted a few times due to graffitti • Playshool Windows replaced • Vandalism • increase over last year 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Facilities • Director: Garth Williams (vacant) • Upcoming Interior Repairs • Repainting of basement • “FIRE EXIT” lighting replacement • Kitchen fire suppression system (old one n longer in code or supported by manufacturer) • “Crash bars” (handles) on many doors starting to wear out (1 was replaced last year) • Some are close to 30 years old. • Upcoming Exterior Repairs • anti-vandal lighting. • loitering suppression system • Tennis court resurface 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Programs • Director: Mary Anne Wilkinson (vacant) • Playschool • All positions filled • Retained teacher • Current enrolment of 49 children, up from last year (46) • Classes being offered are Mon-Wed. Fri AM & PM for 4 year olds, and Tues – Thurs AM for 3 year olds • Enrolment for 3 and 4 year old classes start in March 2008 • City of Edmonton Programs • Girls & Boys Groups & Shop and Drop programs (8 programs/121 kids) • 2 Big Bin event this year – BIG SUCCESS! 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Programs • Director: Mary Anne Wilkinson (vacant) • Capital Health Flu Clinic • ran for 3 weeks in October/November • Over 10,000 vaccinations provided • Beavers/Cubs/Scouts • 42 members between the ages 5-16 running on Mon, Tue, Wed & Thurs evenings in the main hall. • New Hall Usage Contract drafted and signed between Scouts Canada and BQCL • Brownies & Girl Guides • running Tues & Wed evenings in the loft and basement. 2008 BQCL AGM

  24. Year in Review – Sports • Director: (vacant) • Soccer • Indoor - 3 teams • Outdoor - 17 teams • Basketball • No teams (declining enrollment) • Tennis • City Run Programs – good attendance • Martial Arts • Monday and Wednesday nights at the hall 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Sports • Director: (vacant) • We need a Sports Director! • We need a Soccer Coordinator by December 15th or next season is in jeopardy. • Lack of soccer teams will affect BQCL revenue next year. • A BQCL liaison to SWEMSA is needed • Please consider volunteering for these or other Sports Coordinator positions! 2008 BQCL AGM

  26. Year in Review – Fundraising • Director: Chris Wilkinson (vacant) • Held our Casino this year • Made about $78,000 • Next Casino will be held in 2010 2008 BQCL AGM

  27. Year in Review – Publicity • Director: (vacant) • Opportunity to start “fresh” with a suggested program to revitalize interest in the BQCL. 2008 BQCL AGM

  28. Year in Review – Civics • Director: Sandra Crawford (vacant) • Century Park • Looking for height increase • Ostensibly to make up for potential loss of space due to accommodation of Arts Gallery • Shuffling building types within Zone • Does not affect zoning type 2008 BQCL AGM

  29. Year in Review – Civics • Director: Sandra Crawford (vacant) • South-LRT (S-LRT) Extension • Generally on-schedule (Century Park Station due to be open in 2010. • BQCL had much to do with retaining wall designs, jersey barriers, landscaping and other aesthetics. 2008 BQCL AGM

Year in Review – Civics • Director: Sandra Crawford (vacant) • First Time Home Buyers Program • Urgency has diminished with economy and housing market “glut” • Still does not change the fact that we will need to lobby for a change to location. • The City wants to put homes where the Toboggan Hill is. 2008 BQCL AGM

  32. Year in Review – Financial Treasurer: (vacant) Acting Treasurer is Vice President Clayton Crawford. Financial Statements reviewed by Peterson Walker. 2008 BQCL AGM

  33. Year in Review – Financial Director: (vacant) At beginning of year – Moni Jena Heather Rogers (then Secretary) acted as Treasurer while Moni on vacation in December and January. Moni left the community in May Clayton Crawford (Vice President) filled Treasurer role for remainder of year 2008 BQCL AGM

New Business • Need a motion to decrease yearly family memberships from $40.00 per year to $35.00 effective immediately • to be in line with those of other Community Leagues throughout the EFCL. • Need a motion to increase Hall Rental Coordinator’s salary from $300.00 per month to $500.00 per month effective immediately • Has been $300.00 for past 5 years • Hours per month has increased to 30-40 2008 BQCL AGM

  50. New Business • Need a motion to increase Ice Rink Manager Salary • From $2200.00 per month to $2600.00 per month • May go down if we upgrade equipment • Need a motion to allocate 3 hours per week for Confederation Minor Hockey practice time on a first come/first served basis • 1 team per week per time slot • Ice must be in good (i.e. safe) condition • Weather must permit (-20c to +5c) 2008 BQCL AGM
