What Are The TR/19 Regulations, And What Do They Mean For The Cleaning Of Your Commercial Building’s Ductwork When it comes to ensuring the most exact standards of cleaning for a business premises’ ventilation systems, TR/19 compliance is crucial. But what are the TR/19 standards, and what implications should your knowledge of these standards have for your approach to commercial ductwork cleaning at your site? Introducing the TR/19 standards, and what you need to know about them The term “TR/19” refers to the guidelines for ductwork cleaning that have been set out by the Building Engineering Services Association, or BESA. BESA is the main trade association in the UK for companies that carry out design work, installation, commissioning, and maintenance in relation to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration (HVACR) and related engineering projects. The TR/19 regulations constitute best-practice guidelines for the maintenance of ductwork. They provide detailed information on how a building’s ductwork should be maintained, in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the employees who use the given premises on a day-to-day basis. From a practical standpoint, achieving compliance with the TR/19 rules isn’t “merely” important for health and safety reasons, as critically important as this particular priority is; that is because, if you have ductwork in your commercial building, falling short of TR/19 compliance would also risk invalidating your insurance. The regulations make clear that the commercial ductwork cleaning provider that you use must carry professional indemnity insurance, in addition to being able to show photographic proof of its cleaning standards. What is now TR/19 has evolved significantly over the years The history of the TR/19 standards can be traced back to 1998, when BESA published what were then known as the TR/17 rules. These rules provided guidance for good practice, and put in place standards for the testing, cleaning, and verification of ventilation systems’ internal cleanliness. In 2005, the guidelines were republished. Coinciding with this, the standards were updated to bring further enhancements to the best-practice guidance, and incorporated the former publication DW/TM2 – Internal Cleanliness of New Ductwork Installations. This expansion of the previous guidance also led it to be renumbered, from TR/17 to TR/19. A subsequent second Edition of TR/19 made reference to the new British and European
Standard BS EN 15780 Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems, which had been introduced during 2011. How does Nationwide Property Clean help clients to achieve TR/19 compliance?
