Was it successful? Work of some of the private sector developers was shoddy. Ramwell and Saltburn also found "high profile protests against 'HellwayHomes‘ (Bellway Homes) Continuing high levels of unemployment in the UK as a whole and the Greater Manchester area in particular. Asubstantial number of houses in Hulme being bought to let Historical presence of gangs in Manchester and in Hulme has negatively impacted on attempts to reduce crime in the area. Although crime rates went down in the early years of the regeneration of Hulme they have now risen again While the original mission was “the lasting regeneration of Hulme” (Manchester City Council 1993) it has yet to be demonstrated that this has been accomplished.
