  2. GARBAGE AND RECYCLING MASTER PLAN • City Council asks the Public Service to prepare a comprehensive waste management plan (2010) • Speak Up Winnipeg • Nine months of city-wide public consultation • Participated by more than 2,500 citizens

  3. GARBAGE AND RECYCLING MASTER PLAN • Services include • Weekly garbage and recycling cart collection • Bi-weekly yard waste collection • Cost = 14 cents a day - charged on water bills

NEW COLLECTION SYSTEM • First piloted in the northwest area (Feb 2010) • Delivery of Carts and start of services • August 1, 2012 - AutoBin areas • Six-week program to remove 5,400 AutoBins • Approximately 24,000 residential families in the northwest area • Issues with overflowing AutoBins and illegal dumping • October 1, 2012 • Remaining 165, 000 residential properties converted • Southeast and Northeast area of the city

Mayes calls for special meeting to address these issues • Oct 19 – City’s new deadline for Emterra to catch up on missed collections, but these aren’t met • Emterra tells media that they have been advised by the City to no longer comment on the issue
