EXECUTIVE BRANCHby, Grace The Executive Branch makes sure people follow the laws that the Legislative Branch make. The leaders of this branch are the President and Vice President.
LEGISLATIVE BRANCHBy, Alex The Legislative Branch makes laws for the Nation. The Legislative Branch is made up of the Congress. Congress is the House of Representatives and the Senate.
JUDICIAL BRACHBY, Jobian The Judicial Branch is made up of the courts. The Judicial Branch makes decisions.
NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNMENTSBy, Erin In North Carolina the Governor is on the Executive Branch. The groups on Legislative Branch in North Carolina are the North Carolina House of Representatives and the North Carolina Senate. The North Carolina Courts and Council are on the Judicial Branch.
CARY MAYORBy, Diya The current Mayor of Cary is Harold Weinbrecht. His term expires in December 2011. Expires means that he will no longer be the Mayor. He gets to be Mayor for 4 years.
RALEIGH MAYORBY, SOFIA The Mayor of Raleigh is Charles Meeker. His term ends in 2011. That means he won’t be mayor anymore.
MAYORBy, Morgan A mayor gives leadership to the city. He gets people to visit our city. He gets more special events for our city. He helps education. He serves as the city’s representative for the state.
NORTH CAROLINA US SENATORSBY, JOSEPH Richard Burr and Kay Hagen are North Carolina US Senators. Senators serve for six years. The next Senator election will be in 2014 for Kay Hagen.

GOVERNORBy, Aiden The Governor does many things. The Governor dedicates new highways attends to funerals and proclaims special days. He helps in emergencies and he manages the state government. When the Governor is out, the Lieutenant Governor is in charge.
PRESIDENTAL REQUIREMENTSBy, Aaliyah To become a president, you have to be at least 35 years old. You have to be born in the United States. You also have to have lived in the United States for 14 years.
ELECTION RULESBY, ETHAN James Madison and Alexander Hamilton made up the election rules. They made up the rules on a document called the Constitution.
PRESIDENTAL TERMSBy, Collin Every four years, Presidents are elected. 2 times in your life you can be elected for President. President Franklin Roosevelt was special because he was President for more than 8 years. He was the only President who served the USA for that long.

2 MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIESBy, Connor A political party is made up of people that usually think alike about different issues. There are two major parties in the United States. They are the Democrats and the Republicans.
POLITICAL PARTIESBY, ISMAIL Current President Obama and former President Clinton are Democrats. Former president George Bush and John McCain are Republicans. Early in the election process, many people run for president or any office. Early in a campaign there are all kinds of Republican candidates and all kinds of Democratic candidates. Then some drop out. Then each party makes a nomination for only one candidate.
CAUCUSES AND PRIMARIESBY, EMILY The first elections are called Caucuses or Primaries. Iowa usually has the first Caucus. New Hampshire has the first Primary.
PRESIDENTIAL TICKETBy, Will What happens at the National Convention? Each state holds a big meeting called a convention where they elect people called delegates who support their favorite candidates. Then in July or August each party holds its National Convention. This is where the delegates get together and select one candidate to nominate for President and one to nominate for Vice President. What is a ticket? The 2 nominees are called a ticket.
CAMPAININGBy, Chakri A debate is where they talk about why the candidates want everybody to vote for them. To win the election, the Presidential Candidates travel around to see who else can vote for them. They make lots of TV and radio commercials.
VOTINGBY, FAITH You have to be 18 years old and registered to vote in order to vote. You can only vote one time. When you register to vote, your name gets put on a list.
WINNING THE ELECTIONBy, Noora The candidate with the most votes may not always win in the election to be the President. This is because votes are counted by each state. The nominees are trying to win each state.
ELECTORAL VOTESBy, Camden Each state is assigned a certain number of electoral votes based on its number of Senators and Representatives. Each state gets one vote for each person that it has on Congress. California gets 55 Electoral Votes. Rhode Island only gets 4 Electoral Votes.
FINALLY WINNINGBy, Anna A ticket needs a majority of the Electoral Votes, or 270 Electoral Votes, to win. The new President and Vice President are then sworn in during January. Then they can begin their term.
