To graduate from Dickinson High School, you must: • Attend school at least 90% of time and make a semester grade of 70 or higher to receive credit for each semester course • Less than 75% attendance is automatic lost credit with no option for appeal • Earn 26 credits to complete the requirements of a graduation plan with an endorsement • Pass all of the 5 STAAR EOC exams – English 1, English 2, Algebra 1, Biology, US History

Seniors with 21 credits in the fall with no graduation required electives pending are allowed 2 off periods each semester. • Students must have transportation to leave campus at approximately 12:45pm everyday. • Students on campus after 12:45pm will have classes add to their schedule. *OFF PERIODS

Gator Aide is a local (non-state credit) – does not count toward the 26 credits needed for graduation • Criteria • Good attendance • Little to No Discipline • 21.5 credits for 1 semester Gator Aide • 22 credits for 2 semesters of Gator Aide • Job assignment designated by counselor and AP GATOR AIDES

Scale • 0.00 to 6.000 • Calculation based on each semester grade • Determines your class rank (how you compare) • 1 to 618 (11 grade) • #1 = first in class / top student Determines your future opportunities – college, scholarships, college sports, job offerings, etc… GRADE POINT AVERAGE = G.P.A.

  13. Class Rank • Your rank is where you stand in your class based on GPA. • If you have the highest GPA in your class- then you would be ranked #1 out of the number of students in your class. EX: 1 out of 618 Each student is ranked 1 through 618. • Why does it matter???

WHAT DOES A UNIVERSITY LOOK AT FOR ADMISSIONS? • Rank and GPA (grades) • Challenging Schedule (your transcript) • Standardized Test Scores (SAT, ACT) • Extracurricular Activities (resume) • Fine Arts, Sports, Organization, Clubs, Academic Competitions, etc…. • Essay Writing • Leadership Roles (resume) • Letters of Recommendation (counselor and teacher(s))

PreAP or AP next year? • Grades this year + STAAR scores determine eligibility for next year. • See chart in handbook on P. 7 for requirements • Plus • Parent/guardian must attend mandatory PreAP/AP meeting (or see video) & sign • Expectations • Summer assignments completed • Sign a commitment to the program • Take the AP exam for college credit (3 or above) • Make a good/reasonable choice when signing up. You will not be removed until the end of the 1st nine-week grading period if you change your mind • Pages 4-7 of handbook

  25. Collegiate High School new application will be out on their website soon. • There is a new page added where students will need to use the CHS app. • Deadline to submit application for Collegiate HS is May 3, 2019

Go ahead register now for different dates.* SAT exams are held on Saturdays (generally)* Study by using PSAT results & Khan Academy* Collegeboard should have sent email to you with instructions for linking to Khan Academy with individualized practice.* More information regarding the PSAT and Khan Academy will be given on January 31st (Parent University)* SAT fee waivers in D101 for those on F/R Lunch.* Registration fee – SAT - $47.50, SAT w/essay - $64.50* ACT - $49.50, ACT w/essay $58.50

This year DISD is providing a spring SCHOOL-DAY SAT on April 23rd (Tuesday). • This SAT is for juniors only • Cost - $10 and $5 if you are on free/reduced lunch • 150 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis • Students may register from January 31-February 15, 2019 • Registration will be held in the counseling center during lunches • To register, students must pay the fee (cash only at this time) • Once the 150 spots are gone, students wanting to take the SAT (or ACT) will need to register for a Saturday date.
