  2. Homework discussion • What reasons did you suggest for the differences between Salisbury and Manchester?

  3. Comparing Salisbury with Manchester... • Go to... www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk • Enter your postcode in the ‘Neighbourhood Summary’ box on the right hand side. Scroll down to see the different indicators of what your area is like. • Now, do the same for M14 4TH, the Manchester postcode. • Use the information provided to complete your worksheet.

  4. Questions... • Which area is the most deprived? Salisbury or Manchester? • Pick 2 deprivation indicators from the website . Why do you think a high level of this indicator would make crime more likely in Manchester? • This area of Manchester is called Moss Side. Why do you think its crime is relatively low when it is such a deprived area? • Search for some images and stories of Moss Side. Are they positive or negative about the area?

  5. Extension challenge Only if you have finished all the work on crime in Salisbury and in Manchester…… M14 postcode has some of the worst poverty, employment, health and education in the UK. BUT CRIME IS ABOUT AVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY. You should investigate Moss side, Manchester.(which is where the M14 post code is). • What is good things are happening there? What is being done to change and improve the area? • What impact do you think each of these changes could have?
