1. the NOUN a noun is a person, place, thing, or idea for example: a doctor a city an apple peace
2. the VERB a verb expresses existence (“to be”), occurrence, and ACTION for example: eat play ride think
3. the ADJECTIVE an adjective often helps us understand the noun for example: • what kind of house? -- a blue house • what kind of car? -- a fast car • what kind of job? -- a boring job
4. the ADVERB the adverb generally helps us understand the verb for example: how does he go? -----he goes slowly how often do they study? --they always study where are you reading? --I’m reading in the library
