Student-Led Conferences • This year, instead of doing our traditional “arena conferencing” on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, will be doing “Student-Led Conferences” • One of our seventh grade teams (Team Bold) did them last year as a trial, and we will now be doing them for all students.
What is student-led conferencing? Students conduct formal conferences with their parents to display their schoolwork and discuss their own learning, goals, and strategies for meeting those goals.
Benefits for Students • Students take ownership of their learning. They demonstrate increased accountability for their progress. • There is tremendous power in this. • Students learn to set goals and work towards them. • Student work becomes more focused. • Students have the opportunity to develop presentation skills.

What does it look like? Goal Setting • Students start by setting one goal for each class. • Your teachers will help you with this over the next few weeks. • It’s your job to track you goal over the next 11 weeks.

Artifacts • Students collect samples of their work throughout the term to showcase their learning and progress. • Students should play a role in selecting which pieces of work to include in their presentation. • Samples of work should then be evaluated by the students • “I do this well; I struggle with….”

Instructions are on the PowerPoint template. • There will be checks every few weeks, and you will be referred to an SLC Tutorial if you are too far behind.
