A media literate public must be able to: • Examine the purpose of various media forms • Evaluate persuasive techniques of media messages • Deconstruct media to determine the central idea of a message and how effectively that message has been conveyed Think Critically!

What about TAKS? • The TAKS will test the ability of a student to analyze and evaluate culturally diverse written texts and visual representations. • Items that address the viewing and representing piece may require students to: • examine purpose of various media forms • evaluate persuasive techniques of media messages • deconstruct media to determine the central idea of a message and how effectively that message has been conveyed

Identify local cable operator (CO) and lead operator of consortium TEA/ESC 12 for overseeing program Texas Cable & Telecommun-ications Association Texas Education Agency Viewing and Representing: Media Literacy in Texas • A portion of materials expense is underwritten by CO (as resources permit)for initial training • Five minute welcome by CO at initial training • Other opportunities to partner as determined by trainers and cable operators Identify ESCs 20 largest school districts ESCs and largest school districts contact lead operator on initial training . . . Promote a Media Literate Texas
