Monotheism Father ,Son ,Holy Spirit “For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”) yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” 1 Corinthians 7:24
“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son and whomever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 • God is the only God, and he is loving ,forgiving, all mighty, masiah, creator of the world, selfless, sinless, highest on earth, and father of all. • Whoever believes in God will have eternal life • Heaven vs. Hell: belief in God=eternity in heaven no belief in God=eternity in hell • Jesus died on cross for EVERY PERSONS’ sins and he rose from the dead. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 • Everyone sins but God forgives us • Everyone are brothers & sisters and created by God and everyone is equal. • God’s Promise: rainbow "Ipromise every living creature that the earth and those living on it will never again be destroyed by a flood.The rainbow that I have put in the sky will be my sign to you and to every living creature on earth. It will remind you that I will keep this promise forever. ” Genesis 9:11-13

Holidays/Rituals • Christmas- Jesus’s Birthday • Easter- resurrection of Christ • Lent- giving up something for 40 days in preparation for Easter • Ash Wednesday –first day of lent • Good Friday-Day to remember Jesus’s death • Communion-remembrance of Jesus’s death and wine=his blood and bread= his flesh • “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.“1 Corinthians 11:23-24 • Baptist-grants or symbolizes salvation, cleanses away sins, confers grace, and publicly expresses one's faith.

Missionary work/ Outreach • Apostles-his followers after his death • Disciples-follows of Jesus who helped spread the word of Christianity (very loyal to Jesus) • Paul- hellenized background, Jew from Anatolia & became a Christian and traveled and preached the new religion • Government officials had mobs but ultimately Christianity became victorious over other cults in Greco-roman lands Called a revolutionary by the Romans • Armenian alphabet= spread of Christianity • Frumentius= helped establish Christain Communities (Ethiopia) • Spread to Nubia from Ethiopia
Origin/ diffusion of religion Under roman rule • Judaea- Jewish homeland (near Israel) • Jesus born in Galilee and claimed to be the Messiah since birth. Jewish waited for the Messiah to come free them from Roman rule. • Christianity came from Judaism • Jesus-young Jewish carpenter and rabbi (teacher) • Most of the first converters were women, salves, and the urban poor Early Christian communities were democratic, elected leaders but there became a hierarchy of priests and bishops • Christianity became victorious over other cults in Greco-roman lands Called a revolutionary by the Romans • Romanization and trade helped move and diffuse Christianity • Christianity is from Judaism
Contacts with other religions • Obvious main interaction with Judaism • Zoroastrianism had major influences on Judaism therefore Christianity as well. • Both religions have a god and devil, heaven and hell, reward and punishment, and the messiah and end of time • At one point though Zoroastrian high priest actually boasted about killing Christians • Mithraism in Rome • Constantine issued Edict of Milan
Comparing and Contrasting religions Christianity: Jesus is Messiah, Heaven vs. hell, Jesus loves all, belief in God( 1 God) Zoroastrianism: belief in truth-telling, purity, and revernce for nature. Similar to Christianity they both practice intolerance and believe in one God. Buddhism: belief in 1 God (Buddha), belief in after-life(Nirvana), enlightenment and meditation Judaism: Believe in God but believe that Jesus was not the Messiah and that the Messiah is yet to come Daoism: everything happens for a reason and you should just go with it Confucianism: everyone is good and deserves a second chance
