Experiment/ Hypothesis • Measure gamma-ray radiation compared to air pressure • Hypotheses: As air pressure decreases, radiation counts will decrease
Equipment/Materials • Helium balloon with 1000 ft. of nylon cord • Custom-made gondola • Geiger Counter • Laptop (x2) • Remote Server • Barometer (measure altitude via pressure)
Procedure • Connect computers to wireless networks • Connect all labpro equipment • Go to ground control and start data collection • Continue viewing live feed of data until connection disappears. Reconnect and retrieve remote data
Analysis • Our hypothesis was incorrect. • Air pressure and radiation counts have a direct correlation. • However data is unreliable because of averaging.
Improvements? • Better communication for live feed. • Get a labquest • GPS for altitude measurements • Better intervals for counts
