Goals of the Initiative • An operational framework to assess governance and evaluate progress over time • Improve communication and create space for environmental and social voices • Build the capacity of major groups and governments to practice good governance • Complement efforts to advance public interests

  3. The Indonesia Assessment has Improved Transparency • The Indonesian House of Representatives, website now features • agenda • list of work in progress • list of legislation passed • public message board for participation

  4. Thai Assessment Draws Attention to EGAT Corporatization Process • Demonstrated that the process did not protect against abuses of power • lack of a regulatory body to balance stakeholder interests was a serious problem
