Translations • Slide;moves each point in a figure the same distance and in the same direction. • (x + a, y + b); directions where to move • atells you how far to move left or right • btells you how far to move up or down • The original figure and its image are congruent
Reflections • Flip; a mirror image of the original figure over a line of reflection ( the x or the y axis). • Reflection over the x-axis results in a vertical flip and only the y-coordinate changes. • Reflection over the y-axis results in a horizontal flip and only the x-coordinate changes
Symmetry • Line symmetry- When figures can be folded in half and match exactly over lines of symmetry • Can have zero or many lines of symmetry
