  2. Questions After Ditching • What do I do once I’ve made it out of the plane? • How are they going to see me? • What can I expect from my rescuers?

  3. SurvivalWhat now? • Inflate vest • Muster with other crew members • Stay with plane unless sinking, or presence of fuel or fire. • Huddle • Inventory

  4. Survival Gear • Life Rafts • 4-6 man • Available for purchase through LSC.

  5. Life Vests • Wearable type vest is preferable • Needs to have pockets for survival items. • Make sure bladder is exposed!

  7. Sea Dye Marker • Visible for 2 miles at 3,000 ft. • Good target for 1 hr. • Sprinkle around body

  8. Signal Mirror • Most underrated! • Lightweight • 8 mill. Candle power • Visable up to 40 miles!

  9. Signal Flares

  10. MK-79 Pencil Flare • Do not aim at aircraft! • Visable up to 10 miles at night. • 250-650 ft. • Small, easy to carry within vest.

  11. MK-124 Flares • Day and Night end. • Day- orange smoke • Night- red flare • Burns for 20 seconds

  12. Strobe Light • 9 –18 hrs. • Easy to see!

  13. What to expect from USCG

  14. Cold Water Survival • Air Crew Dry Coverall • 14 hrs. in 32 degree water • Extra buoyancy • Hood for head

  15. How do we search? • 300-500 ft. • Constant scanning • Important to make yourself visible!

  16. Coast Guard Gear • ASRK Kit • Rescue Basket • Rescue Litter • ADSK Can

  17. ASRK • 3 Rafts, 2 Survival Kits • C-130

  18. Rescue Basket • Primary rescue tool for Helicopter • Stay calm, listen to Rescue swimmer • Hands inside basket and hang on.

  19. Rescue Litter • Used for injured survivors • Used by rescue swimmer

  20. ADSK Can • Dropped by C-130 • Loaded with good stuff
