THE CANADIAN CONNECTION FROM JIM DOYLE & ASSOCIATES IN AMERICA IDEAS YOU MIGHT USE IN TV AD SALES IN CANADA A bi-weekly memo focused on ideas that work in America and might help your ad sales in Canada. Courtesy of Jim Doyle & Associates,www.jimdoyle.com Now offering sales training and revenue-producing projects in Canada. As one of the largest sales training companies for local TV sellers south of your border, at Jim Doyle & Associates we debated the value of approaching stations in Canada. We asked ourselves two questions: Would our training material apply in your country? Would our in-market sales projects raise the hundreds of thousands of new dollars, even in small markets, that we do here? Thanks to CTV in Sudbury, we have the answer to the first question. It’s a big YES. CTV bought our TVSales.101.™ Then I made a personal visit to Sudbury for a discussion on what works and what fails in local sales tactics and local creative ideas. I loved being there and discussing the realities of being a street seller with their reps. As I departed for my next stop, in a much warmer Chattanooga, Tennessee, they commented that we had lessons valuable for both new hires and experienced people. It seems clear that 95% of what we teach and preach in our TVSales.101™ applies in Canada (with healthcare advertising being the 5% of our training that would not apply to you). It’s also interesting to note that many stations in Canada, just like those in the states, have not seen a new comprehensive training program since the days of Jason Jennings. (I remember it from my early years as a radio rep in the 1980’s!) So, this edition of the Canadian Connection is pure promotion for our TVSales.101™. If you’re in doubt about buying it for your sellers, please call Marett or Scott in Northern Ontario and they’ll give you their opinions. In the next issue I’ll be back with more real-world ideas to help you with your local sales, which is our specialty. In the meantime go to: www.tvsales101.comfor all the details.
