What’s in the video camera kits? • Canon HD hard-drive video camera with flip out screen • External microphone with shock mount and hand grip • Tripod
Setting up the video • Here’s one we prepared earlier… • Trickiest part is putting both the microphone and camera onto the hand grip • This then attaches to tripod as shown • Turn on the little switch on the microphone! • BYO headphones
Shooting your video • Prepare a storyboard first to remind yourself what you need to shoot • Prepare a script if needed to remind yourself what you need to say • Keep the camera on tripod • Make sure you get enough “coverage” of the action • Don’t forget close-ups
Transferring videos to computer • Camera connects via USB • Camera must be plugged in to power to transfer files • Copy files to local hard drive for editing (not network drive) • Copy the whole folder called “AVCHD” – this holds the videos • If you take still photos they are in the “DCIM” folder
Editing your video • Adobe Premiere Elements is software of choice • Open Premiere and import your videos • Add videos to timeline and trim each clip as required • Add titles where needed • Can create music with built-in SmartSound • Add narrationif you want to • Avoid flashy video effects • Save your work every five minutes!
