BPM Offset Determination by Sinusoidal K-modulation • J. Wenninger, K. Fuchsberger, T. Baer LHC Studies Working Group April, 19th 2011
Aimof MD • Determine BPM offsets of (triplet) BPMs to improve steering. • Identify best method of performing K-modulation.
Proposed method • scanΔx with local orbit bump until: beam Δx‘ Δx
Procedure • At 450 GeV, flat orbit, nominal/probe. • Modulate strengths of Q5/6 by about 1.4∙10-4 (2.5%) • Associated tune change: ≈ 0.01 • rms orbit change (assuming Δx = 1mm): ≈ 50µm • Try the same with triplet quadrupoles. • Larger β -> larger tune change.
Example from 2010 • Modulation of MQXA.3L1 by 2∙10-5 • rms orbit change: 45µm

To be done • Verify sinusoidal trim of quadrupoles. • YASP: • rms of all arc BPMs (Kajetan) • Fit sin² function to evolution plot (fixed frequency) (Kajetan?)
