  3. 1983 • Lotus became the best-selling program for IMB Pcs

  4. 1984 • First jet printer for PCs

  5. 1987 • Pcs Intel's with microprocessor introduced

  6. 1990 • International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) formed to contribute to student learning

  7. 1993 • Companies begin manufacturing computers with the Pentium processor by Intel • 1993 “Technology Standards for Teachers” released by ISTE with 13 indicators • Mosaic Web browser created by Marc Andreesen, leading to organization of Netscape Communications Corp

  8. 1995 • Microsoft Windows 95 released with more than 10,000 lines of computer instructions • 1995 • The JAVA application introduced by Sun Microsystems is a programming language for numerous platforms

  9. 1997 • Intel Pentium II Processor introduced to incorporate MMX technology with video, audio, & graphics • 1997 FCC approves Education Rate (E-Rate) telecommunications discount for K-12 schools and public libraries • Introduction of DVDs allows optical disc storage of computer, audio, and video data at near-studio quality

  10. 1998 • Microsoft introduces the Windows 98 upgrade to 95 with improved Internet access and system performance • The futuristic Apple iMac computer is introduced minus the floppy drive but with a new easy setup • 1998 • Florida High School Online begins online courses • Intel Teach to the Future launches a program for worldwide integration of technology in the classroom

  12. 2001 • Digital satellite radio licenses auctioned off to two companies for $93 million and $89 million • Microsoft introduces Microsoft Office 2001 for Macintosh with Word, Excel, Entourage, and PowerPoint • Apple Computers produces Mac OS X and promotes it as the preeminent operating system • 2001 America Online (AOL) introduces Internet access with instant messaging, e-mail, and customized pages • Microsoft releases Windows XP Professional and Home versions for advanced computing • Wireless access to technology increases as carriers compete for market share through new services • Electronic texts (E-books) available via free & paid download with the ability to search, highlight, etc.

  14. 2004 • LinkedIn and MySpace bite into Friendster’s market share of social networkers • 2004 • Microsoft produces Class Server Learning Management Platform to aid school districts with NCLB challenge

  15. 2005 • Information distribution via blogging and podcasting become commonplace on the WWW • 2005 Spim, SPAM, spit, spyware, and phishing join viruses in computer annoyances, often transmitted via e-mail • YouTube (www.youtube.com ) invented by S. Chen, C. Hurley, & J. Karim for online video sharing

  17. 2007 • Podcasting and Vlogging increase in popularity due to easy access and use of digital audio and video • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) extends to Wi-Fi phones with Wireless-G network & high-speed Internet • 2007 • Microsoft Vista operating system with Internet Explorer 7 released, with improved security & performance

  21. Touchscreen tablet computer, the iPad, released by Apple • 2010 YMax Corp, the makers of magicJack, has a new version that lets users make free calls from cell phones • Intel developed the Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) that enables users to beam computer screen images to a TV
