  1. Process Focused, Shared Destiny BWU DEM/Workflow Subcommittee BWU Conference - Session #2 October 15-18, 2001

  2. Welcome • Introduction • DEM/Workflow Subcommittee Panel Discussion • Join us in establishing our shared destiny! Webster defines the word HELP as 'to join and contribute to the performance or completion of a task...to make easier, likelier or more probable...'. Let's work together to design a DEM/Workflow user community which collectively HELP’s with our individual business and system challenges.

  3. Committee Members • DEM/Workflow Subcommittee • Active Members: • Sue Vetter – Boeing Commercial Airplanes (Chair) • Pierre Beaulieu – DynaFlow Modeling Solutions (Co-Chair) • Don Morren – Herman Miller, Inc. • Brian Bergey – IBM Global Services • Michael Phifer – TriNET, Inc. • Leen Roeleveld – Baan Company • Action Members:What about YOU?

  4. Vision Statement • Vision • To add value to DEM/Workflow and to become a reliable and informative resource to the Baan World User Community.

  5. Mission Statement • Mission • Maintain a professional working relationship with Baan, its affiliates and partners. • Become a facilitator of information between the BWU Community and Baan. • Improve DEM and establish visibility globally as a valuable implementation and post-implementation tool for security and continuous improvement.

  6. Mission Statement • Mission (continued) • As DEM & Workflow Knowledge “platform”, to establish a network of individuals and organizations able to provide information & product to solve DEM problems or to enhance DEM capabilities. • The committee acts as a gateway • of DEM/Workflow topic knowledge.

  7. 2000 Goals and Objectives • Increase global exposure and knowledge of DEM and the presence of the DEM Subcommittee • At least two articles in the newsletter. • Weekly updates to DEM questions posted via the Web. • At least five Committee submittals reflecting input secured from conference participation. • At least one global member.

  8. 2000 Goals and Objectives • Develop methods of which the Subcommittee can be an effective medium for the BWU Community to Communicate with Baan and its Partners. • Participate in Baan CIP/CWG programs as they become available.

  9. 2000 Goals and Objectives • Ensure that Enhancement Requests are processed efficiently and results communicated back to the Users. • All existing DEM ER’s reviewed and initial status applied by 4/1/01. • Subsequent ER submittals reviewed within 45 days of receipt.

  10. ER Procedure • Full ER Procedure and Enhancement Request forms can be found on BWU website under ERs, Enhancement Requests, Submit an enhancement request. • Committee Submit ER’s are posted on the BWU website for peer review and comments. These can be displayed by searching on an “Assigned Subcommittee” and selecting DEM/Workflow. (http://www.bwu.org/Secure/ER/er_search.jsp)

  11. ER Procedure • Company Submit • DEM/Workflow subcommittee may co-sponsor Company Submit requests and work issues. • Committee Submit • DEM/Workflow subcommittee will also team with companies to work common issues.

  12. 2000 Goals and Objectives • DEM03133 Employee Migration • Problem Description: Include the ability to copy/export employees and the roles attached to them within the Project Model to other versions/project Models. • Operational Consequences: Time saved by not having to input all employee/role within a project model for a site when a newer version of DEM needs to be used. • Proposed Solution: Within the Export Session and/or the Copy Version Data to Version offer the ability to also copy or export the employees within the project model by themselves in order to populate them within other versions. • Baan Feedback: In Baan ERP 5.0c, the employees are no longer stored by version, although the roles still are. It is also possible, in 5.0c, to copy employees, roles and employees by role to another version. The reason behind keeping the roles in the version is because it allows a controlled change of employee-role links. If the roles are no longer in the version, any change in the role/employee definition would have a direct effect on the run-time environment. A controlled/versioned change is then no longer possible.

  13. 2000 Goals and Objectives • DEM03134 Differences Report • Problem Description: Currently, Differences Reports don’t user to specify or select amount of diagram or version detail needed. • Operational Consequences: Currently, report creation is lengthy. Navigating and sorting through report contents is slow and cumbersome. Adds difficulty to validating the “move sheet” during block-point checkout activities, which are required part of internal change management and installation procedures. • Proposed Solution: Provide the ability to specify what’s being compared Diagram-to-Diagram and Version-to-Version (additional proposal detail included in actual ER). • Baan Feedback: Development to support the proposed solution (details) not cost justifiable at this time. Here are two sessions providing some help –* Session “Print roles by process matrix (tgbrg8423m000)” can deliver some of desired subapplication authorization query data. Can be started from print menu in Roles by Business Process session. Select detail level from activity till subapplications.* ERP 5.0c session “Analyzing of modeled Subapplications (tgbrg5127m000)” allows selection of component application (can be session) then returns all activities & subapplication authorizations where component application is modeled in a browser.

  14. 2000 Goals and Objectives • DEM03135 DEM Export of Project Model • Problem Description: DEM export provides several export ranges. Using “Business Process” range offers ability to select subset of process diagrams from repository to be included in export. Using “Reference Model” or “Project Model” ranges, adds process info to export file. Selecting both, file is loaded with the cumulative ranges of both and not the “intersection” of 2 ranges. • Operational Consequences: The resulting export file is always very large (>60Mb) even when project model is small. Email limitations could prevent distribution of larger file size. User cannot import only processes of a selected Project Model. • Proposed Solution: Enable the “intersection” of both ranges to be added to the export file. • Baan Feedback: ERP 5.0c allows an export of only Business Processes used in Project Model. Set field “Export Used Model Items in Business Models” to ‘Automatic’ and only Business Processes present in selected Project Models exported. However you still get repository data and model specific data for each exported Business Process. If you only want to export the model specific data then you need to create specific derived version where you maintain the model specific BP data. Then can export this version with only the model specific data.
