Pre-alignment status • OUTLINE • Monitoring of QD0 (slides from NIKHEF) • PACMAN project MDI, 24/05/2013 H. MAINAUD DURAND
Monitoring of QD0 • Objectives: monitoring of the position of 2 QD0 according to 4 DOF
Monitoring of QD0 • Reference Rings are mounted around the QD0s • Two rings per QD0, for 4 wheels with zerodur spokes
Transfer quality ~ 0.1 μm (12 dismounting /remounting) • Thermal expansion driven by granite thermal expansion, and confirm that the thermal expansion of zerodur is very small • Young modulus checked.
Next steps: • Sensors Raschain under validation on short range on TBTM • Setup to calibrate sensors (12 m) is under preparation • Design of a four 3.5 m spoke set-up
PACMAN scientific project • Starting point = challenge concerning the pre-alignment of the CLIC components. • Requirements: • The zero of each component will be included in a cylinder with a radius of a few microns: • 14 µm (RF structures & MB quad BPM) • 17 µm (MB quad) • 20 µm (DB quad) • Current strategy • Series of steps: fiducialisation of the components and their support, alignment on a common support, alignment in the tunnel using sensors fiducials. • but time and precision consuming
Fiducialisation of components Fiducialisation of their common support Alignment on a common support Whole assembly ready to be aligned
Scientific project • PACMAN project: • Propose and develop an alternative solution integrating all the alignment steps and technologies at the same time and location (CMM machine) • Technologies concerned: Ultra high precision engineering Magnetic measurements Beam Instrumentation Micrometric alignment Nano positioning Metrology
Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN): Innovative Doctoral Program CERN as host institution 15 associated partners Start date (TBC): 1/09/2013 Duration: 4 years Web site: http://cern.ch/pacman Opening of applications: mid June 2013 EC fundings for 10 PhD students
Conclusion • 2 main subjects addressed currently: • The monitoring of the position of QD0, through a collaboration with NIKHEF • Concept proposed • First tests performed on 1m long spokes • Sensors under validation on TBTM • The improvement of the fiducialisation process via PACMAN • Other subjects need to be tackled, common to CLIC and ILC: • How to link left / right parts of the tunnel • Micrometric adjustment according to 6 DOF
