The secret to success! • For this strategy to improve fluency, students must read from a “good-fit book.” • The mini lesson on “good-fit books” is crucial. • If the book is to difficult students cognitive demand and energy will be spent on decoding.
How we teach it • During the conferences, set the purpose for the task of rereading to make reading smooth and accurate. • The teacher should model this strategy for the student. • Then have the student try the rereading strategy. • Inforce that the strategy does not take long and can be used during read to self, partner reading, and also at home.
Voracious Reading Strategy • Readers become more fluent by increasing their volume of reading. • This is also used for Expanding Vocabulary. • Most students develop fluent reading normally with little guidance.
