Values: the culturally prescribed criteria by which individuals evaluate persons, behaviors, objects, and ideas as to their relative morality, desirability, merit, or correctness conceptions of what is desirable; they are the underlying assumptions by which individual and social goals are chosen assumptions, convictions, or beliefs about the manner in which people should behave and the principles that should govern behavior. Those qualities of behavior, thought, and character that society regards as being intrinsically good, having desirable results, and worthy of emulation by others.
