The Foundation Program The Qatar University Foundation Program was first established in 2004 as a direct result of the educational reform initiated at QU. All Qatar University students, except those registered in Sharia College and the Arabic Language Program must fulfill Foundation Program requirements before they can join their respective QU colleges and programs. The goal of the Foundation Program is to prepare students to succeed in their subsequent undergraduate university studies by providing them with the necessary academic skills in English, Mathematics and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) as mandated by Qatar University. It serves as a vital bridge between the students’ high school experience and their first encounter with higher education here at QU.
Foundation Program mission & Vision • Mission The mission of the Foundation Program is to prepare high school graduates to meet the minimum common entrance requirements, as set by Qatar University, and specific entrance requirements, as set by the University colleges • Vision The Foundation Program will equip students with the necessary communication and study skills to pursue competitive college programs.
Foundation Program Courses Foundation students study English, Mathematics and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). All Foundation courses are non-credit. English and ICT course requirements are standard for all Foundation students despite their specializations, while Mathematics course requirements vary according to students' specializations.
1. English To be exempted from the Foundation English Program, TOEFL or IELTS, minimum score requirements are as follows:
ACCUPLACER ESL Test All new Foundation students are required to take the ACCUPLACER ESL, English placement test, in order to register in the appropriate level of English Courses.
2. Mathematics Students will be exempted from Foundation Mathematics courses, if SAT or ACT scores obtained are as follows:
3. Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Students will be exempted from Foundation ICT courses, if IC3 scores obtained are as follows:
Partial Exemption Students may be partially exempted from Foundation courses, if they are exempted from one or two Foundation subjects (English, Mathematics and ICT). Students who attain partial exemption are eligible to register in credit courses according to the following :
Other Courses Offered by Foundation Program • Foundation Program also offers credited courses such as: • Two courses in the Core curriculum: • English 1 , Oral Communication Skills • English 2, Academic Writing & Research Skills. • Two courses, English 1 and English 2 for Non- Foundation programs such as Humanities & Shariastudents. • Adjunct courses according to the requirement of other colleges such as the Primary Education Diploma Foundation course. • FP is also the exam center for all standardized tests (TOEFL, IELTS, Accuplacer ESL, ACT, IC3, PCAT,…etc.). يوم أعضاء هيئة التدريس الجدد New Faculty Orientation
