Proposed Cuts in Education In millions of dollars
Eliminated Education Programs(Pre-K through 12) x-The governor’s proposal suggests that some funding remains in the GGO to assist some IU’s. Additionally, IU’s would still receive funding from lines such as special education, early intervention, and non-public school services. y-For Dual Enrollment payments, the proposed budget indicates that students will be able to utilize a portion of their basic education funding for dual enrollment. The governor has stated that students in their final years of high school should have opportunities to acquire post-secondary credits and that school districts should consider modifying their resource allocations to provide students with this opportunity.
How does this impactmy child’s education? The most significant policy change for Pennsbury and Council Rock is the change in formula for reimbursing school districts for cost of social security payments.
How does this impact the state’s colleges and universities?
Governor Corbett’s other proposals impacting education • Allowing for school districts to furlough professional employees for economic reasons without regard to tenure. • Requiring school districts to get voter referendum approval for any property tax increase above the inflationary increase. • Enabling low income students in failing school districts to attend another public or nonpublic schools through publically-funded vouchers. • Not funding Classrooms for the Future • Cuts the Grants to Students line item under the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), by $7.3 million or 1.9 percent, to $380.9 million. The Institutional Assistance Grants program would be reduced by 50 percent or $15 million.
