Prepare relevant body area for taping and strapping • Appropriate positioning for support of joint position • Degree of exposure • Use of under wraps • Removal of excess body hair • Cleansing and drying of area to be taped
Observation and palpation • Palpate the area noting any changes of temperature, drag and bogginess • Observe for changes in colour, capillary refill • Client comfort • Range of movement
Application of tape and techniques • Correct tension with the limitations of tape • Correct use of tape • Correct application and aesthetic quality • Avoiding excessive traction of skin • No gaps or wrinkles • Avoid continual circumferential taping • Avoid excessive tightness over bony areas
Dangers of misuse • Lack of circulation • Excessive restricted movement • Blisters and friction burns
Cleansing and hygiene following treatment • Adhesive remover • Supporting the skin when the tape is being removed • Check for skin damage • Remove after 24hrs before if necessary • Disposal of tape and contaminated tape in yellow bin • Wipes and moisturise if necessary
Client reassessment • The clients subjective evaluation • Pain reduction • Injury prevention • Improved proprioception • Less swelling • Confidence • Any modifications required
