  5. Internet Misnomers or inaccuracies…It’s not always true just because it’s on the web • Items in print on the Internet don’t mean their factual • Not all of the first search results are the best • Most pop up ads are scams

  6. Staying Safe Online means…Being in Control of your privacy • Keep your usernames and passwords private. Never share this information with others • Do not give out personal information such as your full name, address, or phone number • Notify a teacher or parent if someone uses inappropriate language or images on the Internet or if they ask you to send or share inappropriate images or videos • Not everyone is who they say they are! Cyberbullying is…using electronic devices and electronic media to intimidate, threaten, or harass others • Why Cyberbullying is Different • Kids who are being cyberbullied are often bullied in person as well. Additionally, kids who are cyberbullied have a harder time getting away from the behavior. • Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. It can happen any time of the day or night. • Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source. • Deleting inappropriate or harassing messages, texts, and pictures is extremely difficult after they have been posted or sent Watch the Video “What is Cyberbullying”

How do I do my part to stop cyberbullying… • Do not post derogatory comments or insults about other people online • Do not post personal or private information about other people • Do not create fake profiles in another person’s name • If you or someone you know is a victim of cyberbullying, don’t be a bystander, report it to an adult and be an upstander
