High School Strategic Intents-All Students Strategic Intents 2012-2013
High School Strategic Intents Strategic Intents 2012-2013 • We believe credits earned is a better predictor of graduation than marking period averages. • We believe that any student that graduates should be counted – not only those in their cohort. We have introduced credit recovery programs as well as the High School Learning Center.
High School Strategic Intents Strategic Intents 2012-2013 • This was the 2nd year of the new test. Test went from 6 hours to 3 hours. • The new Common Core English assessment will be given on June 3rd 2014.
High School Strategic Intents Strategic Intents 2012-2013 • The new Common Core Algebra Test will be administered on June 3, 2014. • Students who are repeating the course will take the both the Common Core Algebra Test and the Integrated Algebra Regents.
High School Strategic Intents Strategic Intents 2012-2013 • We continue to encourage all students to take a 3rd science. • We believe in the inquiry model across the secondary level.

High School Strategic Intents- New Targets Strategic Intents 2013-2014 • Graduation rate is set by the State. • Credits earned is the true indicator of success from year to year – 4 year or 5 year.

“Look Fors” - Goals/Objectives • Do the goals/objectives identify what is to be learned in relation to the curriculum? (NOT activities) • Are the goals/objectives posted?
What is goal setting? • Goal setting is the process of establishing a clear and explicit purpose for instruction and learning. • Instructional goals narrow what students focus on.
So, what exactly is a goal? • It’s the TARGET learning you want students to gain. • Goals identify the knowledge, concepts and skills to be learned
When students know what they are learning, their performance, on the average, has been shown to be 27 percentile points higher than students who do not know what they are learning

Communicating Learning Goals to Students“I CAN STATEMENTS” • I can use the slope formula to calculate slope given two points. • I can use evidence from the text to support a claim that I develop.
Don’t Forget…Learning Goals • Must be clear. • Must be achievable. • Should be displayed in the same location daily for consistency • Must be assessed --- how will you determine if students missed or HIT the target? • How are students demonstrating their understanding of the learning objective?
Department Groups In groups of 2 or 3 (with representatives from each school) • Review walkthrough data • Consider a goal for the department based on that data • Discuss those as a full group and determine a goal or goals to work on prior to the Nov. 18th combined meeting • Any questions? (index cards) • Identify one person from each combined department to email goal(s) to Robin and to turn in any index cards to her
