How Many Marks Out of 5? Taking bookings for self-drive hire is an important procedure for PCH. Describe the processing and calculations carried out when the booking clerk click the calculate button. Student A When the calculate button is clicked the system calculates how long you will hire the car for by subtracting the pick up time and date from the return time and date. The daily rate for the type of vehicle is looked up and multiplied by the quantity. Charges for extras are looked up and multiplied by the quantity. All charges are added to the hire cost to give a subtotal. VAT is calculated and added to the subtotal to give the total estimated total cost of hiring a car. Although there is plenty of correct content as it has been copied straight from case study , however the candidate has not answered the question in the correct manor. The question clearly asks for processing and calculations which are carried out therefore there is an expectation they are stated first with the explanation after. Multiply the daily rate by the number of days to give hire cost. Lookup any charges for extras. Multiply extra charges by days required. Add all extra charges to the hire cost to give a subtotal. Calculate VAT and add to the subtotal to give the total estimated total cost of hiring a car. This candidate has scored 5 out of 5 and quickly reached the maximum marks for the question - there are plenty of other correct answers here to give credit for but we cant. Hardware - Student A The mechanics use laptops which link to the server wirelessly Software – Student A The mechanics laptops have specialist diagnostics software which they use when servicing cars. The candidate has not answered the question correctly here and has just copied the content from the case study without thinking. The question asks for hardware and software therefore there is an expectation that this is stated first with explanation given afterwards for the follow on mark. The candidate has rearranged the text in the pre-release so that what the question is asking for is stated first, they have then continued the answer to explain how the item of hardware and software is used. 4 out of 4 can be awarded and the candidate has in fact given content worth more marks than are available for question.
